Google Trends Shows Fortnite is Losing Steam

Back in 2018, it felt like you couldn't escape the hype surrounding Fortnite. Memes and dances featuring the game were everywhere, and it quickly became a fan favorite among gamers of all ages. However, despite its initial surge in popularity, Google Trends data indicates that interest in the game has steadily declined over the past five years.

Monthly search volume over time for "Fortnite"

Competitors such as Apex Legends and PUBG may have contributed to Fortnite’s steady decline. Where the game once held the top spot in the Battle Royale genre, serious competition has taken away that monopoly. Over the past 12 months, however, the search term has held a steady interest. With peaks during updates and small launches, and slight dips in between. Fortnite manages to maintain search volume averaging around 8 million searches per month.

Interest remains steady currently, mirroring searches for XBox Cloud Gaming. Still, Minecraft, another game popular with gamers across all demographics, maintains a higher average monthly search volume.

Even though Fortnite might not be as trendy as it once was, it's still holding its own in the online gaming world. When compared to other games, it has a strong search volume and keeps a steady following that most other battle royale games can't match.
